Kia Ora FM 89.8 is the local Iwi/Māori radio station that broadcasts
from Wharite. We are the media arm of
Tanenuiarangi Manawatū Incorporated, the iwi Authority for
Rangitāne o Manawatū. We broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for
the entire year. We cover part of the Kapiti Coast, all of Horowhenua,
Manawatū, Rangitikei, and parts of Wairarapa and Tararua.
Tanenuiarangi Manawatū Incorporated ("TMI") has been the iwi authority for Rangitāne o Manawatū since 1989. Its members are the natural desendants of the hapu of Rangitāne o Manawatū.
These hapu include:
- Ngāti Hineaute - Palmerston North District
- Te Rangitepaia - Manawatū/Horowhenua District
- Te Rangiaranaki - Palmerston North/Horowhenua District
- Ngāti Mairehau - Manawatū/Horowhenua District
- Te Rangitauira - Manawatū/Rangitikei District
- Ngāti Te Kapuarangi ki Manawatū – Manawatū
TMI provides a of health and social services through its subsidiary Best Care (Whakapai Hauora) Charitable Trust. However, as the iwi authority it is responsible for progressing matters relating to the wellbeing of its beneficiaries. These include progressing Rangitāne o Manawatū Treaty of Waitangi claims, providing Educational Scholarships to its beneficiaries and undertaking a range of consultation with local, regional and national organisations on issues that affect Rangitāne o Manawatū. TMI's other main role is to provide management and administrative support to its subsidiaries.
